The Culture of Betawi at Setu
Babakan
Setu Babakan is an area of settlement made by the
Government of Jakarta as a place of preservation and sustainable development of
Betawi culture. Settlements are located in the southern city of Jakarta is one
of the interesting attractions for tourists who want to enjoy the atmosphere of
a typical rural or watch the original Betawi culture directly.
Setu Babakan is located in Srengseng Sawah, District
Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, DKI Jakarta, Indonesia. In this village, the Setu
Babakan still retain distinctive culture and way of life Betawi, such as
raising fish in cages, fishing, farming, trade, making crafts, and make Betawi
traditional foods.
Village
is flanked by two
lakes (Setu/Situ) and has a total area of about 165 hectares and is inhabited at least 3,000 households. Most of the population are native Betawi people
who have lived for
generations in the area. While
a few others are immigrants
who have lived
more than 30
years in this area.
Setu Babakan as a heritage area
Betawi is actually a relatively new tourist attraction. Opening as a cultural
heritage area was conducted in 2004, which in conjunction with the anniversary
of Jakarta-474. These settlements are considered still to maintain and preserve
the unique culture of Betawi, such as buildings, dialect, dance, music, drama
and art.
History:
Historically, the determination as Setu Babakan Betawi
heritage area has actually been planned since 1996. Before that, The Jakarta
administration also plans to establish the Condet, East Jakarta, as a heritage
area Betawi, but nevertheless done because, over time, the settlement is
getting washed out of the Betawi cultural nuances. From this experience, the
Jakarta Administration and planning of new areas instead of the planned area.
Through the Governor's Decree No. 9 of 2000 Setu Babakan
village was chosen as the Betawi heritage. Since this determination, the
government and people start trying to pioneer and develop the village as a
viable cultural heritage area visited by tourists. After preparation is enough,
in 2004, Setu Babakan inaugurated by Governor of Jakarta when it is Sutiyoso,
as the Betawi heritage. Setu Babakan village is also one of the selected object
/ Pacific Asia Travel Association / (PATA) as a place of tourist visits to the
PATA conference attendees in Jakarta in October 2002.
Activity Holiday:
Setu Babakan settlement is a rural area of natural and
cultural environments are well maintained. Tourists visiting the area of

Cultural Tourism
After entering the gate

2. Nature Tourism
Not far from the stage
show, there are stairs down to the lake. Around the lake planted with various
trees that calm, so that we can sit or picnic while enjoying views of the lake.
There are also recreational water facilities in the form of a duck boat. Ticket

3. Culinary & Shopping Tourism
If

Betawi traditional food such as ketoprak, ketupat nyiksa, kerak telor, ketupat sayur,
bakso, laksa, arum manis, soto betawi, mie ayam, soto mie, roti buaya, bir pletok,
nasi uduk, kue apem, toge goreng, dan tahu gejrot. For souvenirs, we can also buy dodol Betawi. The price
is so affordable. Not only
food, typical Betawi
accessories are also sold on the outskirts of the main roads, such as eyeglasses,
toys typical Betawi, and other accessories.
How
To Go Location:
To get to the location of the settlement Setu Babakan
relatively easy, as there are many public transport vehicles that pass through
this settlement.
- From Terminal Markets Sunday, up Kopaja No. Blok M to 616 majors Cimpedak, down at the gates of the settlement Setu Babakan or take public transportation numbered 128, then down at the front gate of the settlement Setu Babakan.
